The Slomo and Cindy Silvian
Community Service & Leadership Training Program
Yeshivat Lev HaTorah seeks to empower its students with the knowledge, passion and skills to become leaders in the Jewish community. Our educational approach involves learning through action. We expose our students to real needs in our communities and discuss the impact our actions and involvement can achieve. For example, we encourage our students to spearhead and support a vast array of social action and community projects, including food collections, major carnivals and fundraising marathons, clothing drives and big brother mentoring programs. On a practical level, we give people help, food, a reason to smile, and, at times, a rejuvenated life. We are proud to consistently donate more pints of blood to Israel than any other institution in Beit Shemesh. Most importantly, we work to ensure that this all emanates from a genuine interest to help others and a true internal belief that our efforts and contributions can make a genuine difference in the world.
The Community Service and Leadership Training Program effects change in three areas:
- Numerous families in crisis receive economic relief and emotional support in their time of need.
- Many children in need receive extra-ordinary attention (and food if necessary) through our big brother program.
- Lev HaTorah students gain experience in organizing and implementing community service projects, which allow them to cultivate skills needed for future projects.
We have seen at least 1/3 of our students become actively involved with philanthropic and non-profit causes. Our students are known on college campuses throughout the world as leaders in their local Hillels and similar educational organizations. Our students have run programs for underprivileged families throughout the world, started their own initiatives, and have volunteered in significant ways to help improve the greater Jewish community.
Slomo and Cindy Silvian
Slomo and Cindy Silvian of Blessed memory, left behind a passion to help children and people in need all over the world. While they did not have children of their own, Yeshivat Lev Hatorah is grateful for the opportunity to carry their legacy and love of life forward to help benefit future generations through the Slomo and Cindy Silvian Foundation. With their active involvement in the Foundation’s development and the generosity of their contributions, Yeshivat Lev HaTorah will be able to continue to work towards actualizing their dreams.
